Vicky Down
vocals
Congo/Belgium
Although Congolese/Belgian jazz & mambo vocalist and guitarist Vicky Down, a close friend of Manu Dibango and Toots Thielemans, reached world fame in 1952 with his “Angelitos Negros”, he remains an unsung hero of Belgian jazz.
Down was nevertheless repeatedly awarded the prize for “Best Belgian Male Jazz Singer”.
From his native Congo, he came to Belgium with the secret of eternal youth in his guitar, and the warm and generous timbre of his voice never left him.
