Germany
Helsinki based German pianist/composer Antje Rößeler was born in 1989 in Berlin. As a daughter of two cellists, she got classical violin and piano lessons at
an early age. As a teenager, she played in student big bands and took jazz piano lessons, soon leading to participation in a study-preparation-programme of the Musikschule City-West, with Tim Sund and Julia Hülsmann as her teachers.
In 2009 she started her studies at HfM Dresden. She founded her first own trio, participated in the composition workshops „Women in Jazz“ with Julia Hülsmann, and became a member of the youth big band „LaJJazzO“ Brandenburg lead by Jiggs Whiggham.
Inspired by an exchange-semester at KMH Stockholm in 2013, she decided to apply for the two years – „Nordic Master of Jazz“ – program to continue her studies after finishing at HfM Dresden with both an
artistic and a pedagogic diploma in 2014.
This led her to studying also at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the DJM Aarhus, and she finished the Master at KMH Stockholm in 2016.
As a member of Nils Landgrens „Jazz Baltica All Stars Big Band“ she got to play at the Jazz Baltica festivals
from 2016 to 2019.
She gave trio concerts at „Stockholm Jazz Festival“ and „Aarhus Jazz Festival“, and played at different places such as jazz clubs in Germany, Scandinavia and Finland.
In 2018 she recorded a Live album at Jazzclub Schlot Berlin with her „Stockholm Trio“, which was published by the Label „WismART“.
It got very positive reviews in the magazines „Jazzpodium“, „Jazzthetik“ and „Piano-News“ and at the radio „Bayrischer Rundfunk“.
The Stockholm Trio also played at the Jazz Baltica festival 2021.
Antje was a jazz piano teacher in Berlin at the Musikschule Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, and the Musikschule City-West between 2016 and 2022, where she is also one of the teachers of the yearly jazz workshop.
In 2022 she was a guest-teacher at the „Frei-Spiel“ workshop at the Bundesakademie Trossingen.
In the years of the pandemic, she founded a new concert venue, the „Jazzschloss Berlin“, in a church-chapel, and also initiated a collective of musicians, the „Konzertkollektiv City-West“, which is now curating concert series at the Jazzschloss, as well as at another venue called „Terzo Mondo“.
In 2022 Antje moved to Helsinki again, where she is teaching at „Deutsche Schule Helsinki“’s music school.
Besides German and English, Antje speaks fluent Swedish and a little bit of Finnish.
